Obama is considering banning all recreational fishing. Just google obama fishing ban. This is the craziest thing I have ever heard come out of Washington. I have emailed every politician from my area and state, if I don't hear back from them by this time tomorrow I will start blowing up their phones. This literally almost has me to the point of tears. Heres a copy of the letter I sent, I tried to keep my emotions in check while writing.

I am writing in regards to the ban President Obama is considering on recreational fishing. I do not know how I have missed hearing about this. Of all the things to ever come out of Washington this may be the craziest idea I have ever heard of. Does the President not understand the economic effect this will have on people associated with the fishing industry, not to mention the people like me, who grew up fishing and spend a lot of quality time with my family fishing? How can you tell your ten year old son, who has done yard work to earn money to buy fishing lures, that he can't fish anymore? How can you tell a family who spends their quality together fishing that they can't fish anymore? Sir this is the craziest idea I have ever heard and something needs to be done about it. It has to stop somewhere. You can't just take away a persons way of life. This is still America
As far as the depleting the fish theory goes, that can be blown out of the water by talking to one fish biologist. Fishermen do more for the well being of fish, fish survival and fish habitat than any environmental or animal rights group ever has. If recreational fishing is banned, in less than ten years there will not be a healthy fish to be found in our country. These groups always talk about wanting to keep animals from going extinct, well anyone with any common sense about animals know that they have to be kept in check for the species to survive.
Please Mr Wicker, do your best to get this stopped. This isn't only about money, this is about a freedom and a way of life

^.  there is no way that anyone is going to attemp to ban fishing.  just isn't going to happen.  typical fear mongering.  Don't get me wrong, i don't care for the job Obama has done as President, but this is ridiculous.

It's people like you that sit back and say "they will never ban fishing, hunting, etc" that don't realize what these things mean to some people. Sometimes a little "fear mongering" is neccessary because the damn government is crazy and some environmental group comes up with this idea to ban fishing and no one stands up to them. Then you get what we have here, which is the craziest damn thing I have ever heard. I am so damn mad about this that words can't even describe it.

Well damn -- I was in Dothan this afternoon and stopped by Sportsman's and picked up a bunch of crappie jigs. Didn't see JT though.
Ben -- remember we all need to be ever vigilant.  :USA:

Oh well, I will just be an outlaw...

I would not doubt that he is about to screw up the commercial fishing industry, which will make going to a seafood restaurant more outrageous than it already is, but I agree with the article that was posted.  These guys really have fished up species of fish time and again, especially the salwater variety...  I can remember when the net bans went into place in FL and I can tell you the recreational fishing has gotten 1000% better for it...

Woodrow... Why didn't you ask for me? I was gone to get my boy from 250 to 3, but was in the building the rest of the day.

Did you get the 3 for a dollar baits?

Did they build a school right next to your shop?  If not, you didn't get anywhere in Dothan from 2:50 to 3:00.  Maybe out of the parking lot...

5 mins to get there, 5 to geþ back. I have a system, give or take a few minutes.

New system puts me there when carpool is over, no traffic trying to get. I hit the roads inside the circle the whole way.

I've read up on this tonight some more and talked to some folks about it and all I hear is "it'll never happen". That's the attitude that let's crap like this happen. Sometimes I wonder if the American people have lost their backbone

JT -- I ate at the place next door and I was in your place about 1:30 or so. I looked at the 3 for $1 stuff, but just bought jigs.

Bought something I haven't seen or tried before, Yum crappie jigs with a "wooly beavertails", pink in color with a white tail.
I'll stop back by soon. I want to talk with you about trolling for stripes and noticed y'all had a lot of large shad that might work well.

Those yum baits we just got in. Are those the ones that have the BANG scent in them?

And where will you be trolling?

The stripes are on fire right now in the rivers. Lots of good fish being caught.
