With John's good size and speed he turned into one of the top prospects for the Tide this recruiting season. He is a complete package and has all the physical tools and skill-set needed to potentially excel in man-to-man or zone coverages at the next level. He is a savvy kid that plays with good technique and has very good understanding of different schemes, which will fit in well with Coach Sabans complex schemes. 

Interestingly, one of the people that contributed to John's interest in the Tide was a elderly lady he met while visiting for Junior Day.

"We visited Alabama for Junior Day and decided to get there a day early since we were coming in from out of town," said Manning Coach Robbie Briggs. "We were at the hotel about to go get some dinner, and we ran into an elderly couple who was there to visit their great grandkid. The woman started asking John whether or not he was a prospect, and when he told him he was, she immediately started talking about the Alabama football program.

"It was basically like talking to Bear Bryant for John because she knew a lot of history behind the program and talked about all of the great Alabama teams she had seen in her lifetime. She sold the Alabama program to John that day. He was enthralled listening to her and her stories. I really think that started the deep interest in Alabama for him, and talking with Coach Saban just deepened it."
