Phillip Sims-QB Projected Position: Pro-style Quarterback Hometown: Chesapeake, VA Height: 6-foot-1 Weight: 209 lbs 40-yard Dash: 4.8 secs
It didn’t take long for new assistant coach Sal Sunseri to hit a hot-streak on the recruiting trail, including landing the commitment to Chesapeake’s highly coveted quarterback prospect Phillip Sims.
Breaking the mold of today’s generation of mobile quarterbacks, Sims plays an old school type of football as a pocket-passer. In his 2008 campaign, Sims threw for more than 2400 yards, including 32 touchdowns and had only four interceptions. To show his consistency and level of play, that can be compared to his 2007 campaign where as a sophomore he threw for 3100 yards and 33 touchdowns.
He reportedly has elite footwork and what can only be summarized as a cannon of an arm. And not like a Civil War cannon. Think USS Alabama cannon.
While Sims is projected as a pro-style quarterback, don’t think that he can’t scramble and make plays. One of the most common traits the recruiting experts have noticed about Sims is his ability to accurately deliver the ball on the run with plenty of strength. With a good senior season, look for this young man’s stock to rise quickly.
