HEAD COACH Nick Saban "This team responded better to adversity in this game then we ever have. We played a very mentally tough team. That is a trademark of Frank Beamer. I am especially proud of how the team played in the second half, especially the fourth quarter. I think offensively we played better, I'd still like to see us play with a little bit more urgency. Tonight is the first step in creating an identity for the team.

Tide Win full of Good, Bad, and Ugly E-mail

The Crimson Tide was able to withstand a resilient and mentally tough Virginia Tech Saturday night to claim a victory in the season opener in Atlanta, 34-24. The Crimson Tide defense shut down the Hokie offense and gave the Tide's offense enough time to find their game, which didn't happen until early in the fourth quarter. Alabama left Atlanta with the victory, but the game was stocked full of good, bad, and the all-out ugly.

Bama Dodges Scholarship Losses, Must Vacate Wins E-mail

The University of Alabama is being penalized by the NCAA for policy violations that occurred during the fall of 2007. The penalties include but are not limited to vacating every win in the 2007 season except for the final victory in the Independence Bowl. The University of Alabama will also be placed on probation for 3 years. No losses in football scholarships are expected.



Penalties in the other sports have not yet been announced, but the University of Alabama is bracing for harsh penalties for some of the other sports where the violations were more severe.
